What RSI below 30 actually means
RSI compares the magnitude of recent gains with recent losses on a scale from zero to 100. A reading below 30 means losses have dominated the 14-session calculation. It describes the speed and persistence of the decline, not whether fair value has been reached.
In a range, an oversold reading near established support can precede a rebound. In a strong downtrend, the same reading may simply confirm weakness. Price structure, volume and the distance below SMA 50 help distinguish those environments.
Avoid catching a falling knife
Look for evidence that selling pressure is stabilising: smaller daily ranges, support holding, improving breadth or a higher low. A single green candle is not enough, especially after results, a governance event or a permanent change in the company’s economics.
Oversold screens can be useful for existing watchlists because they prompt a fresh valuation and thesis review. They are dangerous when used to average into every falling stock without an invalidation rule or position limit.

- Review liquidity using traded value and spread—not share volume alone.

Is RSI below 30 a buy signal?
No. It marks weak recent momentum. A reversal needs additional price, volume and fundamental evidence.
Can RSI remain oversold for weeks?
Yes. Persistent downtrends can keep RSI near or below 30 while the share continues falling.
Why show a fallback watchlist?
Some sessions have no qualifying stock. Showing the lowest RSI readings preserves context, but the page labels them separately and does not redefine the rule.
