“Locked all day” means the exchange recorded the same price for the open, high, low and close — the band price was the only price that traded. “Closed at band” means the stock finished there but traded elsewhere during the session. Delivery is the share of the day's volume that settled as delivery; NSE prints no figure for some securities, shown here as —. Turnover is close × volume.
Why this list is shorter than the ones you may be used to
Most pages answering this question do not read the price band at all. They apply a fixed one-day return — usually 3%, sometimes 5% — and call whatever clears it a circuit. On this session that shortcut would have returned 516 stocks, of which only 66 had actually rose to a price band. It would also have missed 16 stocks that genuinely hit their ceiling.
The misses are not random. A stock on the 2% band cannot possibly move 3% in a day — the exchange will not let it — so a 3% filter is structurally blind to every one of them, and those are exactly the stocks under enhanced surveillance that readers are usually looking for. On this session there were 16 of them.
What a upper circuit actually is
NSE sets a daily price band for most securities — 2%, 5%, 10% or 20% — measured from the previous close. The band is a hard limit: no order may execute outside it for the rest of the session. When buying demand overwhelms the supply on offer, the price climbs to the ceiling and stops. That is the circuit. It is a rule of the trading system, not a judgement about the company.
The band a stock carries is assigned by the exchange and can be changed — tightened when a security is placed under surveillance, or widened as liquidity improves. That is why this page reads the band from the exchange's file for the same day rather than assuming one: using yesterday's band list against today's prices produces stocks that appear to have closed outside their own limit.
Can you sell a stock that is at its upper circuit?
Yes — selling into an upper circuit is usually easy, because the queue is full of unmatched buy orders at the ceiling price. The difficulty runs the other way: buying is hard, since everyone ahead of you in the queue wants the same thing and only the sellers who appear get filled.
Does hitting a circuit tell you anything?
On its own, very little. A band is reached whenever order flow is one-sided relative to the band's width, and a narrow band is reached far more easily than a wide one — which is why most of this list sits on the 5% band rather than the 20% one. Several of these stocks are on a tight band precisely because the exchange has placed them under a surveillance measure, so a circuit in those names is closer to a symptom of thin, restricted trading than to a signal about the business.
The columns worth reading beside the move are delivery percentage and turnover. A circuit on ₹2 crore of turnover in a stock with a 2% band is a very different event from one on ₹200 crore, however identical the percentage looks.
Rows this rule could not account for
13 securities closed outside the limit computed from the band NSE listed for 23 September 2026. That normally means the exchange revised the band intraday, or the previous close was adjusted for a corporate action after the band file was written. They are shown rather than hidden, because a screen that silently drops what it cannot explain is not checkable.

Upper circuit questions
What is an upper circuit in the stock market?
It is the highest price a stock may legally trade at on a given day. NSE sets a price band for most securities — 2%, 5%, 10% or 20% — measured from the previous close. Once buying pushes the price to that ceiling, no order can execute above it for the rest of the session, and the stock is said to be at its upper circuit.
How do I buy a stock that is at its upper circuit?
Usually you cannot, or not easily. At the ceiling the order book is full of buyers and almost empty of sellers, so your buy order joins a queue that clears only as sellers appear. Placing it early in the session improves your position in that queue; it does not guarantee a fill.
Can I sell a stock that has hit the upper circuit?
Yes, and this is the easy direction. Unmatched buy orders are waiting at the ceiling price, so a sell order typically executes immediately at the circuit price.
Why do some stocks have a 2% band and others 20%?
The exchange assigns the band, and tightens it when a security is placed under a surveillance measure such as ASM or GSM. A 2% band almost always signals a stock under enhanced surveillance; a 20% band signals a liquid, unrestricted one. Securities in the derivatives segment carry no daily band at all.
Does hitting the upper circuit mean the stock is a good buy?
No. A circuit records that order flow was one-sided relative to the band width, nothing more. A narrow band is reached far more easily than a wide one, so many stocks on this list are there because their band is 2% or 5%, not because anything remarkable happened. Several are on a tight band precisely because the exchange has restricted them.
Where does this list come from and when is it updated?
From two files NSE publishes after the close: sec_bhavdata_full for prices and sec_list for the price band assigned to each security. This page refreshes each evening once both are ingested, and shows the trading date it covers.
Why is this list shorter than other upper-circuit lists?
Because most of them substitute a fixed percentage gain — typically 3% — for the actual price band, which both admits stocks that never reached a band and misses every stock on the 2% band, since a 2% band stock cannot move 3%. The exact counts for the session shown are printed on this page.
